Lesson 3

We began the lesson by doing the same exercise which i explained in detail in the previous post, this time as a cast we were more confident when running through this exercise and felt more as one, rather than individuals trying to remember what the following positions are. During the first bit of the rehearsal we spent a lot of time focusing on the fellowship scene which i am in, we started devising and contributing ideas to make the scene strong for example we decided to start the scene off with all of fellowship doing a remix of happy birthday in a tired but happy and drunk way until Jake- Everyman comes in where our energy goes up, the whole emotion throughout the scene ranges a lot; Jake's objective is to try and get us to listen to him and understand him, whereas fellowship are trying to have a good time and celebrate with him, they are not sympathetic one bit and seem to take what everyman is saying as a joke. As there are a couple of us on stage we had to be very aware to make sure that on stage someone is always doing something and not just standing, as of this Ben encouraged us to have the same attitude we would have at a party such as going to get a drink, speaking to people, eating, observing and looking for things to do etc by taking these notes on board we were able to develop a scene that didn't look messy or still but look realistic and it was clear to the audience what every person was doing. we ran this scene until everyone was clear of the staging and the purpose of the scene. When coming back for the final hours of the lesson we started staging the party scene which starts after Sophia walks in and all of us are on the ground, the first song that initiates the party scene is Snoop Dogg- drop it like its hot, where we start coming up from the floor and bopping, then followed by mr bright side where we sing towards the audience and feel united, feed em to the lions which involved us getting into pairs and making sure our foreheads touch and singing to our pair, jump around while this song was playing we formed two lines behind one another and began to jump at the same time, next was in da club where all of us formed a circle around Joanna and were hyping her up and singing towards her. we were able to run the party scene a reasonable amount of times till all of us were comfortable with the running order. other scenes were worked upon that Ben had missed out from the beginning as the first everyman was not present at that time, following from this michelle and callum began to work on the rap that they both share but includes everyone as an ensemble, the process of this was very fun as Ben gave us the freedom to add in our own adlibs and make our own beat to try out what sounds good, the rap did flow but still has a lot of work needed. to finish off the lesson we ran through everything we had worked up to which was very successful and i was content as this was our first run through of the scenes that were developed and it flowed really nicely. By the end of the lesson we admitted that in order for our piece to be outstanding we have to continue to support each other we established that if one person is not putting their all then it will then become apparent and affect the rest of the cast.

Targets; learn lines
don't be shy to try out new things
support peers as it's an ensemble piece
